The College of Science at the University of Baghdad sponsored a video conference (VC) regarding the Iraq Healthy Lung Project (IHLP), held in 22/01/2019 at the Development and Continuous Learning Centre between key scientists and consultant physicians from both the United Kingdom and Iraq. The aim is to exchange information and expertise of how to implement a national programme to deliver an Iraqi Risk Model for prevention and early detection of smoking related diseases such as lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases. The main objectives are to improve the health infrastructure in Iraq and save individual lives. The VC meeting was co-chaired by the project co-investigators; Dr. Ahmed Salim Kadhim Al-Khafaji, from our university end & Dr. Mike Davies from the University of Liverpool end. The project coordinator is Dr. Fadhel Mohammed Lafta, UoB. The Iraqi Cancer Board/ Ministry of Health and Environment was represented by its Executive Manager Dr. Fawaz S. Al-Alloosh, Clinical Oncologist, while Dr. Amar K Muhamed, Respiratory Consultant at Baghdad Teaching Hospital, represented the Directorate of Medical City.
